Test Night...

Image
Good Night! We played guest this weekend.  And though our Home Stay is not quite complete (Kitchen and Bath need to be finalized...and it's the most tedious!), we got to test all the beds!  The new mattresses are amazing but the biggest surprise...because my kids wouldn't go to sleep, I slept part of the night on the sofa pullout...and it's incredibly comfortable! Good Morning! Other surprises, it had been a busy Saturday night in town.  The chamber put on it's annual Art and Wine stroll and we participated at our shop downstairs, Nest Interiors .  I thought, being on main street, it would be loud...and the cars were whooshing until about midnight and then it was like a night in the country.  The other remarkable thing was sunrise in the morning.  About 7am it creeps up over a stand of pine trees just down the street (that I've never noticed!).  The kitchen, even though, filled with boxes, paint cans, etc...was filled with the most beautiful l...

A Place for Everyone...

Image
We are nearly there!  In fact we've opened up the booking (and we have a couple takers so far!)  Initially, when we began renovating our Home Stay, I had a solid concept - one cohesive look.  But each room evolved on it's own with a distinct personality.  Somehow, this eclectic mix works; it reminds me of a family, each person unique, working together.  And that's why I think this is the perfect place for a family, especially. work in progress stocking the library with Louisiana books and more Some of my favorite art and splurge...a chandelier! Take a look at our listing ; more "professional" pics should be added in a week or so as we tie up last minute items.  And right now, we're offering 20% off your booking...but it's a limited offer.  So get clicking and visit! ~Lisa

Somewhere Between the Before & After

Image
Here we are in August and I find we're somewhere stuck in the middle of our renovation...mainly because we ran out of steam.  the two bedrooms are nearly done  Above is the 1st bedroom. In the second bedroom, I refurbished and chalk painted my old antique bed frame.  It's in a beautiful color, French Quarter Rain, from my own line of paint, Cottage Nest Paints.  Also, in the same room, will be an antique desk gifted to me...it needed so much work but it looks like it will be an amazing piece. This room needs a few more furnishings to finish it out, plus art and decor...but for both bedrooms the major painting and touch-ups are complete.  Next up will be the living room... Lisa

Patience and Progress

I will never ever underestimate what it takes to get a vacation rental together again.  It's been partly fun, planning and making purchases, but there are nights I think my body will never feel the same after painting on a ladder all day.  Then I wake up and do it again! Major purchases are near completion; some super mattresses with plush and euro tops that I'm a bit jealous of, new tv's and rugs.  We are still searching for a compact sleeper sofa that looks good, affordable and we won't die carrying it upstairs.  I feel like this will be the last purchase/decision! I'm kind of leaning towards this one's simple design and good feedback on the Serta mattress.  From Wayfair . some available at our shop Nest Interiors The fun part is planning and collecting art work for the walls.  I actually have a lot of great Louisiana and Southern regional art and prints that I'm just not using!  So voila, a few are getting framed, other's waiting for ...
